CERTIFY at NeCS PhD Winter School

We are pleased to inform you that CERTIFY was again able to contribute and participate in the 8^th Edition of the European Network for Cybersecurity (NeCS) PhD Winter School, organized by the University of Trento, from January 8 to 12, 2024, in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

NeCS PhD Winter School is a prestigious annual event focused on cybersecurity. It gathers PhD students, researchers, and industry professionals to explore the latest topics in cybersecurity. Launched seven years ago to address the growing demand for cybersecurity experts, the school supports the training and development of junior researchers as per the European Cybersecurity Strategy and the EC's Digital Agenda by covering various cybersecurity domains, providing networking opportunities and fostering an environment for academic and professional growth.

The NeCS Winter School covered a wide range of critical topics in cybersecurity. Key topics include biometric technologies and their applications, data security and privacy in distributed collaborative environments as well as security and privacy risks in connected IoT devices.

During the event participants engaged with the latest cybersecurity advances, both in terms of attacks and defenses. The program also included the Workshop “Security Services for Connected Devices”, organised by CROSSCON project, where EU-funded research projects presented their research findings and their potential impacts.

CROSSCON (Cross-platform Open Security Stack for Connected Devices) is a Horizon Europe project aiming to create an open, modular security stack for IoT devices. It addresses the lack of open-source hardware, interoperability, and robust security foundations in current IoT ecosystems. The project focuses on enhancing memory protection, trusted services, and security assurance through lightweight techniques. It encompasses use cases like commissioning and decommissioning of devices, secure multi-factor authentication and firmware updates, aiming to establish a secure and interoperable IoT environment. Several EU-funded projects presented their research results at the workshop. These included CROSSCON, ORSHIN, SecOPERA, Project, ERATOSTHENES, ENTRUST, REWIRE, TRUSTaWARE, ENCRYPT Project, CyberSEAS Project and CERTIFY, represented by Luigi Coppolino from TrustUp Srl.
